Luxury vinyl flooring is a popular choice for homeowners because it combines durability, style, and affordability. It’s designed to replicate the look of natural materials like hardwood, stone, or ceramic, allowing you to achieve the aesthetic you want without the higher cost.
Vinyl flooring is also extremely durable and well-suited for busy households. It is 100% waterproof, scratch-resistant, and dent-resistant, making it a great option for kitchens, bathrooms, and homes with children or pets. Many products also include a UV layer to help prevent fading over time.
Another advantage is its ease of installation. Many vinyl flooring options are DIY-friendly, allowing homeowners to install them with minimal experience. Overall, luxury vinyl offers a practical, long-lasting flooring solution that delivers the look of natural materials with added durability and value.

Luxury vinyl flooring is extremely versatile and can be installed in virtually any room of your home—above, below, or on grade. This includes basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and even over radiant heating systems. Because it is 100% waterproof, it’s an excellent choice for moisture-prone areas.
It can be installed over a variety of existing hard surfaces, including concrete, tile, hardwood, and plywood, as long as the surface is flat, smooth, and in good condition. Installation directly over concrete is also suitable, making it ideal for basements. Many products include an attached IXPE foam underlay for added warmth and comfort underfoot.
Before installation, ensure the subfloor is level and free of bumps or imperfections. Surfaces such as carpet, chipboard, particleboard, or existing floating floors should be removed prior to installation.
-
Start by measuring the length and width of your room, then multiply those numbers to get the total square footage. To account for cuts and waste, add an extra 5–10%—or more if your space has a lot of angles or corners.
Next, check how many square feet are covered per box of your chosen flooring. Divide your total adjusted square footage by that number to determine how many boxes you’ll need. Always round up to ensure you have enough material to complete the job.

Proper Floors does not directly employ installers, but we do work with a trusted network of recommended professionals. These installers have experience working with our products and have received great feedback from our customers.
Please note that installation is a separate contract between you and the installer, so we are unable to provide quotes on their behalf. However, we have seen vinyl installation pricing start around $2.50 per square foot. Availability and scheduling will vary depending on each installer.
Furthermore, while we’re happy to recommend these installers, Proper Floors does not warranty or guarantee their work.
